bunq Pro is a cheaper option within Dutch neobank bunq's account line-up and, like the pricier bunq Elite, is aimed at customers who want to manage their account entirely through the app. The feature set is reduced compared with the Elite tier, but the annual fee is noticeably lower. As with bunq Elite, there are no branches or phone advice — the app is the only way to access the account.
According to the database, the account fee is EUR 119.88 per year, just under EUR 10 per month — roughly half the annual fee of bunq Elite. No structured data is available on individual transaction fees; as with the Elite tier, this does not automatically mean they are free, only that no data has been recorded. No additional costs are listed for an unauthorised overdraft (0% p.a.); no data is available on the terms of an authorised overdraft facility. No new-customer bonus is on record for this account. The provider's live offer page could not be technically evaluated at the time of research, so this review relies solely on the database data.
Like all bunq accounts, bunq Pro falls under the Dutch deposit guarantee scheme (Depositogarantiestelsel), protecting up to EUR 100,000 per customer — the same protection level that is legally required for German bank accounts. The account is managed exclusively online and via app; there is no branch network. Here too, a credit card can be added optionally; bunq does not offer an account-switching service for this account.
The target group for bunq Pro is just as broad as for bunq Elite: employees, pupils, students, apprentices, retirees, freelancers, the self-employed, and people without employment are all addressed equally. With its lower annual fee, bunq Pro suits anyone looking for an app-only account with solid deposit protection who doesn't need the more extensive (and pricier) extra features of bunq Elite — for instance, because extra sub-accounts or advanced card options don't matter for their everyday use.
The main advantage is the noticeably lower price compared with bunq Elite while offering the same deposit protection. The downside remains that the account is still a paid one, and structured data on transaction and foreign fees is similarly scarce.
bunq Pro offers the same solid, EU-recognised deposit protection as bunq Elite, but at roughly half the annual fee of EUR 119.88. Anyone who doesn't need the extra Elite features gets a cheaper deal with bunq Pro. Those looking for a genuinely free current account, however, will still need to look elsewhere.
