Our review

Ingrid Schneider · Updated: 3 September 2026

The PremiumGeschäftskonto zum Vorteilspreis (Premium Business Account at a Discounted Price) is Commerzbank's business account for freelancers, sole proprietors, small traders, and partnerships or corporations such as a GbR, OHG, or GmbH. It targets founders and established businesses looking for a digital account combined with personal advice — available online, by phone, in a branch, or via the app.

Account Fees and Terms

The name “at a discounted price” refers to the introductory terms: for the first 24 months, the account costs €8.90 per month. After that, the regular base price of €34.90 per month applies, which works out to €418.80 per year — this figure matches the annual-cost value in our database. There is no permanent fee waiver; the discount is limited to the first two years, after which customers pay the full price. Staying on the discounted rate for the full 24 months works out to roughly €624 in savings compared with the standard price (a €26 difference × 24 months) — this calculation is our own reading of the two prices stated on the offer page, not a figure the bank itself publishes.

Our data does not include reliable figures for overdraft interest; anyone who regularly runs a negative balance should ask Commerzbank directly for the current terms before relying on an overdraft facility.

Payment transactions follow a tiered model: up to 50 online transactions per month are free, and each additional online transaction costs €0.15. Paper-based orders, such as those submitted at a branch counter or via a paper form, always cost €2.50 per transaction — there is no free allowance here. Anyone who handles a lot of cash or regularly submits paper forms should factor these costs into their calculations.

Bonus and Additional Features

Commerzbank pays a €100 bonus into the newly opened account when it is opened online. The bonus is tied to three conditions, all of which must be met:

  • No business account was held with Commerzbank AG in the previous 12 months.
  • Consent to marketing emails and calls; this consent may not be withdrawn until at least 6 months after it is given.
  • An advisory meeting with a Commerzbank advisor within 6 months of account opening — in person, by phone, or by video.

This is not a bonus earned simply by opening the account: anyone unwilling to give marketing consent or attend an advisory meeting will not receive the €100. Anyone who meets all three conditions, however, should reliably receive the credit — compared to multi-stage turnover- or deposit-based bonuses at other banks, the effort involved is manageable, but it does require accepting marketing contact and an advisory conversation.

The card package includes a Girocard (debit card) at no extra cost within the base price. Customers who need additional cards pay €5.90 per month for further Business Card Premium Debit cards, or €79.90 per year for further Business Card Premium credit cards. Withdrawals at Commerzbank and Cash Group ATMs cost €2.50 per transaction, while cash withdrawals via debit card at participating supermarket checkouts are free. The credit card also provides access to a worldwide network of around 2 million ATMs — the bank does not state a specific fee for foreign withdrawals on the offer page, so this should be confirmed directly with the bank before travelling abroad.

Additional features include a free digital power of attorney, the COINFO electronic account statement service for up to 5 accounts, and COTRANSFER for electronic transmission of payment orders. A linked instant-access savings account (Tagesgeldkonto) is also available, currently offering 2.75% p.a. on deposits up to €100,000 for the first 4 months, after which the rate reverts to the standard rate. Deposits in the business account itself are protected up to €100,000 (100%) via the Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken GmbH deposit guarantee scheme.

Who It Suits

Commerzbank explicitly targets this account at freelancers, sole proprietors, and small traders, as well as partnerships (GbR, OHG) and corporations such as the GmbH. It suits both solo self-employed people with modest payment volumes and small teams who want to benefit from Commerzbank's branch network and phone advice. Anyone making more than 50 online transactions a month, or regularly submitting paper-based orders, should budget for the extra costs. Conversely, anyone who fundamentally wants no personal advisor contact will also forgo the €100 bonus. Compared with purely digital neobanks, this account stands out for combining app, phone, online banking, and real branches — an advantage for anyone who occasionally wants personal contact with the bank, but a drawback for anyone who wants to bank entirely digitally without advisory appointments.

Verdict

The PremiumGeschäftskonto zum Vorteilspreis is worthwhile mainly for founders and small businesses who want to take advantage of the reduced €8.90 account fee during the first two years and can budget for the subsequent €34.90 per month. The €100 bonus is tied to marketing consent and an advisory meeting — no obstacle for anyone who wants to be in contact with Commerzbank anyway, but a relevant point for anyone who wants as little communication with the bank as possible. Anyone with frequent cash deposits or paper-based orders should keep the €2.50 per-transaction cost in mind.
