Deutsche Bank Business ClassicKonto: who is this premium business account for?

The Business ClassicKonto is one of Deutsche Bank's two classic business account models, aimed at freelancers, sole proprietors, GmbHs and entrepreneurial companies (UG). It suits business customers who regularly carry out both online and paper-based transactions and who value a branch-based bank with personal advice, phone support and an app, rather than a purely online account.

Costs and fees

According to Deutsche Bank's offer page, the Business ClassicKonto costs 24.90 euros per month as a base fee. Our database lists estimated total annual costs of around 418.80 euros for this account. That figure is notably higher than the base fee alone (24.90 euros times 12 months equals 298.80 euros), because it also factors in typical transaction and card costs, giving a more realistic total-cost picture than the bare monthly account fee. The bank does not state any conditions for a fee waiver, for example based on turnover or balance; the 24.90 euros appear to apply regardless.

On transaction costs, Deutsche Bank draws a clear line between digital and paper-based bookings: a paperless transaction, triggered online or via the app, costs 0.20 euros per item, while a paper-based transaction costs a notably higher 3.00 euros per item. Customers who run their account mostly digitally come out comparatively cheap; those who regularly submit paper transfer slips at the counter should factor this cost difference into their calculations. Our database lists a 0% interest rate for tolerated (unauthorised) overdrafts; no data is available for an arranged overdraft facility.

Cards and additional features

The base price of the Business ClassicKonto includes a debit card, the Deutsche Bank Card Business. Customers who also want a company credit card can add the BusinessCard according to the offer page, which is billed at 29.00 euros per year. For cash withdrawals abroad, Deutsche Bank advertises free withdrawals at partner-bank ATMs in more than 60 countries worldwide; the offer page gives no specific figures for fees at domestic ATMs outside the bank's own network.

The account can be accessed through four channels: online banking, phone advice, the local branch and a mobile app. Neither our database nor the bank's offer page lists a welcome bonus or new-customer incentive for the Business ClassicKonto. Deposits are protected via the Entschaedigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken GmbH up to 100,000 euros at 100%, the statutory EU minimum standard.

Who is this account suitable for?

According to the stated target group, the Business ClassicKonto is aimed at freelancers, sole proprietors, GmbHs and entrepreneurial companies. It fits best for business customers who value an established branch bank with in-person advice and phone support, and who are willing to pay a higher base fee for that compared with purely online business accounts. Businesses with a high share of paper-based transactions should look closely at the cost gap between paperless and paper-based bookings, since it can add up significantly at high volumes. Customers who work entirely digitally and prioritise low running costs may find cheaper alternatives among purely online providers.

A worked cost example

Combining the 24.90 euro base fee with realistic transaction behaviour quickly brings the total close to the 418.80 euros our database lists as the estimated annual cost. At 30 paperless transactions per month, an extra 6.00 euros applies (30 times 0.20 euros); at 10 paper-based transactions per month, another 30.00 euros is added (10 times 3.00 euros). Those two items alone add up to 36.00 euros per month, or 432.00 euros per year, on top of the base fee, showing how strongly actual transaction behaviour drives the final cost of this account. Businesses with very low transaction volumes will land well below this figure, while businesses with many paper-based transactions can exceed the 418.80 euros quickly.

Deposit protection in detail

Deutsche Bank states for deposit protection: deposits are protected up to 100,000 euros at 100%, handled via the Entschaedigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken GmbH. This protection applies regardless of the account type chosen and covers both business and personal balances up to this amount per customer and bank.

Suitable legal forms

Specifically, Deutsche Bank names freelancers, sole proprietors, limited liability companies (GmbH) and entrepreneurial companies (UG), the small-capital variant of a GmbH, as the target group for the Business ClassicKonto. This means the account covers both very small businesses not registered in the commercial register and capital companies already entered there. The bank gives no information here on general partnerships, civil-law partnerships or larger partnership structures, so interested parties with those legal forms should check directly with the bank before applying whether the account is open to them.

Pros and cons

See the summary lists below for the account's main strengths and weaknesses.

Verdict

Deutsche Bank's Business ClassicKonto is a solid but not cheap business account for companies that value a wide branch network, phone availability, and a debit card usable free of charge abroad. With a base fee of 24.90 euros per month plus additional transaction costs, it is not among the cheapest offers on the market, and there is no welcome bonus. For business customers seeking personal contact with an established branch bank and willing to pay accordingly, it remains a reasonable choice.
