A business account for heavy users

Deutsche Bank's Business PremiumKonto targets business customers who use their account intensively and expect a comprehensive package of cards and services in return. It sits clearly above an entry-level business account within the bank's lineup: anyone with a high number of monthly transactions, a need for several cards, and a preference for personal advice plus international reach is the right fit. For customers with only a handful of transactions per month, the monthly fee is likely to feel comparatively high.

Fees and account management

Running the Business PremiumKonto currently costs 39.90 € per month, which works out to roughly 478.80 € per year. No condition under which this base fee is waived or reduced is apparent — the account is charged the full monthly fee regardless of balance or turnover.

On transaction fees, the bank draws a clear line between digital and paper-based processing: paperless SEPA transfers, i.e. normal online transfers, cost 0.10 € per item, as do SEPA instant transfers. Paper-based transfers submitted on a form or at a branch, by contrast, cost 3.00 € per transaction — thirty times the online price. Customers who run their account mostly digitally therefore come out well ahead on transaction costs.

Internal records do list figures for the tolerated account overdraft, but these could not be confirmed on the bank's website — prospective customers should check the current overdraft interest rates directly with Deutsche Bank rather than rely on this figure. No public information is available on a formally arranged overdraft facility either.

Cards, bonus and extra benefits

Included in the account price are two Deutsche Bank Card Business debit cards and two BusinessCard credit cards, allowing payment activity to be split across several people in the company, such as the owner and management. An additional debit card costs 10.00 € per year. The bank is not currently offering an account-opening bonus for this product.

Additional benefits listed by the bank include a second Business PremiumKonto with a 100% discount on the base fee, an extra sub-account with no base price of its own, and access to international financial services — useful for companies doing business outside Germany too. Deposits on the account are protected up to 100,000 € per customer by the Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken GmbH, the standard statutory protection in Germany, but still worth noting. The account can be managed through several channels: online, by phone, in a branch, and via the mobile app.

Who is it for

According to Deutsche Bank, the Business PremiumKonto is intended primarily for high-usage customers. Target groups include freelancers, sole proprietors, limited liability companies (GmbH), and entrepreneurial companies — a broad range from one-person self-employment to smaller incorporated businesses. It makes particular sense for business owners who want to distribute several cards across their team, regularly use in-branch or phone advice, and handle international payment flows. Very small businesses with few monthly transactions would likely do better comparing cheaper account models.

Pros

  • Two debit cards and two credit cards already included in the account price
  • Deposit protection up to 100,000 € via the Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken
  • Very low fee for digital SEPA transactions (0.10 €)
  • Accessible via online banking, app, phone and branch
  • Second business account with a 100% discount plus a fee-free sub-account available

Cons

  • Monthly base fee of 39.90 € regardless of actual usage
  • No apparent conditions for a fee waiver
  • Paper-based transactions are comparatively expensive at 3.00 €
  • No account-opening bonus currently offered
  • Overdraft terms are not transparently disclosed

Verdict

Deutsche Bank's Business PremiumKonto is a business account for companies with genuine usage needs: many transactions, several cards, personal advice, and international reach. At 39.90 € a month it is not cheap, but in return customers get four cards, solid deposit protection, and a flexible branch, phone and app offering. For freelancers or small businesses with low transaction volumes, the fee is unlikely to pay off; for customers with heavy account usage and multiple cardholders on the team, the account can be worthwhile.
