The ING Girokonto is the basic account of Germany's largest direct bank, aimed at anyone looking for a fully digital account with no branch visits required. Alongside the standard account, ING offers several variants — Girokonto Future, Student, and Junior — for different life situations.
The standard Girokonto is free if at least 1,000 euros in incoming payments are credited each month — or, regardless of that, for all account holders under 28. The Girokonto Future variant costs 1 euro a month under the same conditions. For students and young people (Girokonto Student/Junior), the account is free until age 28, after which the same 1,000-euro incoming-payment threshold applies.
The main bonus is 200 euros, paid out as a credit. To qualify, the account must be opened by 30 September 2026, incoming payments must be recorded in two consecutive months, a login to the ING app is required, and customers must agree to receive personalised "tips for you." The payout then follows within up to 7 business days, credited to the Extra account or the Girokonto. Customers who also open a Direkt-Depot by 15 September 2026 can receive up to 300 euros as part of the "Dream Team" promotion; ING additionally pays 50 euros for each successful referral.
The account includes a VISA Card (debit card) at no extra cost. Customers who prefer a classic Girocard can add one optionally for 1.49 euros a month. Domestic cash withdrawals are free at 97 percent of German ATMs, with the VISA Card starting from a minimum amount of 50 euros. ING's product page gives no information about fees abroad.
The app offers a clear overview of accounts and transactions, mobile payments, real-time transfers, support for the Wero payment service, and card management with blocking and limit functions. ING also provides a security guarantee in case of card misuse.
The ING Girokonto suits digitally minded customers with regular incoming payments above 1,000 euros, as well as anyone under 28 who benefits from fee-free banking regardless of incoming payments. Customers who also want to open a securities deposit can benefit from the combined bonus promotion.
The ING Girokonto offers an uncomplicated, digital basic account with good terms for customers under 28 or with sufficient incoming payments. The 200-euro bonus comes with clear but achievable conditions. Anyone who also opens a securities deposit can increase the total bonus further.
