Flexible savings account with a time-limited promotional rate

The Klarna Flexkonto is a flexible balance account with no fixed term, giving customers access to their money at any time. It targets savers looking for an uncomplicated, digital alternative to a classic easy-access savings account.

Interest rate

The database lists a rate of 1.95% p.a. for the Flexkonto, applicable to balances from €1 to €999,999. However, Klarna's own offer page currently shows a higher, time-limited promotional rate of 3.00% p.a. (gross) for this product, valid until 31 December 2026 and capped at deposits of up to €50,000 per Flexkonto. Only after that does the variable standard rate of 1.95% p.a. listed in the database apply. Since the offer page provides a more current and more detailed figure than the database here, this review highlights the currently valid promotional rate of 3.00% p.a., without omitting the standard rate of 1.95% p.a. recorded in the database — which, after all, applies from 2027 onward or above the €50,000 threshold. According to the offer page, Klarna Plus members additionally receive +0.10%, Premium members +0.20% and Max members +0.50% on top of whichever rate currently applies.

Terms and fees

According to the offer page, no fees apply to opening or managing the account, and deposits and withdrawals are also free of charge. There are no fixed terms, and the account can be closed at any time. A maximum of three Flexkonten per person is allowed. Deposit protection covers up to €100,000 per customer. Whether an existing current account at another bank is strictly required is not made clear on the offer page — it only mentions that a bank account (referring to the Klarna account itself) must first be set up.

Who is this account for

The Flexkonto suits savers who already use the Klarna app or are looking for a digital, fee-free alternative to a classic easy-access savings account and want to benefit from the currently attractive, but €50,000-capped, promotional rate. Users of Klarna Plus, Premium or Max receive additional interest bonuses and should factor this into their choice. For savers with balances well above €50,000, the Flexkonto is less compelling, since the attractive rate no longer applies above that threshold.

Verdict

Currently, the Klarna Flexkonto pays 3.00% p.a. (time-limited until end of 2026, up to €50,000) — noticeably more than the standard rate of 1.95% p.a. recorded in the database, to which it reverts afterward. Anyone who keeps the time limit in mind currently gets a fee-free, very flexible savings account with an attractive promotional rate. It is worth noting 31 December 2026 as the key date and checking in good time whether switching or staying at the then-applicable 1.95% p.a. makes more sense afterward.

✓ Pros

  • Currently 3.00% p.a. promotional rate up to €50,000 (limited until 31 Dec 2026)

✕ Cons

  • Promotional rate drops to just 1.95% p.a. (variable) once it expires
  • Promotional rate capped at €50,000 per Flexkonto
  • Unclear whether an external reference account is required
