Santander Tagesgeld at a Glance

Santander Tagesgeld is a flexible savings account from Santander Bank specifically aimed at new customers looking for an attractive rate during an initial investment period. The balance is available at any time, with no fixed term and no notice period — unlike a fixed-term deposit, you can access your money flexibly without losing interest.

Interest Rate and Rate Tiers

For accounts opened since 7 May 2026, Santander pays 2.75% p.a. for the first four months after account opening. After that, the rate for the entire balance drops to a significantly lower, variable standard rate of 0.30% p.a. The promotional rate applies exclusively to new customers who have not held a Santander Tagesgeld account in the twelve months prior to opening — so anyone who recently held a Santander Tagesgeld account will not automatically get the introductory rate. According to the bank there is no upper limit on the deposit amount, nor a minimum deposit, making the account suitable both for smaller reserves and larger sums.

Terms and Account Management

Opening the account requires a reference account, through which deposits and withdrawals are processed; this does not have to be a Santander checking account — according to the bank's FAQ, an account at any other bank is sufficient. The offer page does not list any account management fees. Deposits are covered by the statutory deposit guarantee scheme up to €100,000 per person, as with all German banks.

Pros and Cons

  • 2.75% introductory rate for four months
  • No upper limit on the deposit amount
  • No minimum deposit
  • Reference account at any bank accepted
  • Standard rate after the promotion is only 0.30% p.a.
  • Promotional rate limited to genuine new customers without a Santander Tagesgeld in the last twelve months
  • Rate becomes variable once the promotion ends

Verdict

Santander Tagesgeld is best suited to new customers looking for a competitive rate with no cap on the deposit amount over a four-month window. Anyone leaving their balance in the account beyond the promotional period should factor in the sharp drop to 0.30% p.a. and check in good time whether moving the funds to another provider makes more sense.
