A business account for growing solo entrepreneurs

Vivid Money Prime is the paid, upgraded business account tier from financial services provider Vivid, aimed according to the provider at "growing solo entrepreneurs" — freelancers and sole traders who are past the pure founding phase and need more features than the free Standard tier from the same provider offers, for example around international transfers or cashback. As with the Standard tier, account management runs entirely digitally through the app and web, with no branch visits.

Fees and terms

According to the current information on the provider's own website, Vivid charges €6.90 per month for the Prime tier; with annual payment, two months are free, which brings the effective annual price down from the monthly-payment total (12 × €6.90 = €82.80) to around €69. SEPA transfers are free and unlimited, just as on the Standard tier — this matches the stored product data, which lists a €0 fee across the board for online transactions. On international SWIFT transfers, Prime is noticeably more generous than Standard: five SWIFT transactions are free each month, with each additional one costing €5.

Vivid does not state a separate overdraft interest rate on its own site. The product data lists a value of 0% p.a. for a tolerated overdraft, but this could not be confirmed via the provider's website — it's worth asking the provider directly before opening an account.

An important point for security-conscious customers: Vivid Money is not itself a bank. According to the stored product data, it is an intermediary/service provider with no deposit-protection scheme of its own. Balances are therefore not covered by any fixed statutory deposit guarantee — this applies to Prime just as it does to the Standard tier, and is worth weighing carefully with larger balances.

Card, interest and other features

Like the Standard tier, Prime includes one free virtual card and one free physical card. On cashback, Prime is markedly more generous: a guaranteed 0.2% on card spending, and up to 4% in selected categories — double the Standard tier. Balances earn 4% p.a. for the first four months, after which the rate drops to 2.5% p.a. — noticeably higher than the 0.5% p.a. the Standard tier drops to after its initial phase. Invoicing and a digital business vault are also part of the account, along with personal support around the clock. The account can be managed online, via the app, or by phone.

Who is the Prime tier for?

The Prime tier suits freelancers and sole traders who bill internationally via SWIFT on a regular basis, appreciate higher cashback on card spending, and are willing to pay a monthly fee for these extra features. Anyone who moves money exclusively within the SEPA area and doesn't need international SWIFT payments will usually get more value from the same provider's free Standard tier. Anyone relying on a statutory deposit guarantee should bear in mind that it's just as absent on Prime as it is on Standard.

Pros and cons

  • Five free SWIFT transfers per month, then €5 per transaction
  • Cashback of up to 4% in selected categories
  • 2.5% p.a. balance interest after the initial phase, higher than Standard
  • Free virtual and physical card included
  • Two months free with annual payment
  • €6.90 monthly account fee (or around €69/year with annual payment)
  • No deposit protection of its own, since Vivid is not a bank
  • €5 per SWIFT transfer from the sixth one in a month onward
  • Overdraft interest rate unconfirmed on provider site

Verdict

Vivid Money Prime is aimed at solo entrepreneurs who have outgrown the free Standard tier and want to make regular use of international SWIFT transfers, higher cashback, and higher balance interest. The €6.90 monthly fee is softened somewhat by two free months with annual payment, but it remains a real cost compared with the free Standard tier — anyone who doesn't regularly need these extra features will come out ahead with Standard.
