HypoVereinsbank HVB KomfortKredit Reviewed

HypoVereinsbank's (UniCredit Bank GmbH) HVB KomfortKredit is an installment loan for private individuals who want free use of the loan amount — for example for purchases, renovations, or paying off more expensive existing loans at other banks. The application can be submitted online, and according to the provider the credit decision is made within a few days.

Interest and Costs

The net loan amount ranges from €2,500 to €75,000. The fixed nominal interest rate p.a. ranges from 3.92% to 9.55%, and the effective APR ranges from 3.99% to 9.99%. In the bank's representative example, a net loan amount of €20,000 at a 6.29% nominal rate (6.47% effective APR) over 60 months results in a monthly installment of €389.32 and a total repayment amount of €23,359.12. The bank additionally advertises a limited-time HVB Aktionskredit promotional loan with a 3.99% effective APR starting from €5,000, with a term of 12 to 24 months.

Terms and Requirements

The regular contract term is 12 to 120 months. Additional or partial repayment is possible free of charge at any time, up to 80% of the outstanding loan balance. A full early repayment is also possible, but HypoVereinsbank charges an early repayment penalty for it.

Requirements for approval include income from salaried employment (such as employees, workers, civil servants, retirees, or pensioners) and a residence in Germany. Self-employed individuals and freelancers cannot apply through this channel and instead need a separate offer for business customers. Applying requires, among other things, an ID document, the last two payslips, and a recent bank statement showing the salary deposit. There is also a 28-day contractual right of withdrawal.

Pros and Cons

  • Wide interest rate range with an entry rate from 3.99% APR
  • Free additional repayment up to 80% of the outstanding loan balance
  • Fast credit decision, within a few days according to the provider
  • Limited-time promotional loan with a favorable rate available for smaller amounts
  • 28-day contractual right of withdrawal
  • Full early repayment comes with an early repayment penalty
  • Only for salaried employees, retirees, and pensioners; self-employed individuals need a separate offer
  • Maximum loan amount of €75,000 somewhat lower than some competitors

Verdict

With rates between 3.99% and 9.99% effective and free partial repayment up to 80% of the balance, the HVB KomfortKredit offers a solid overall package for salaried employees and retirees residing in Germany. Anyone planning to repay the loan in full ahead of schedule should factor in the resulting early repayment penalty.
